Fabrizio E. Ellul was born in 1983, and was drawn towards Art and painting from a very young age. Yet, it was probably the two years spent at Junior College and the influence of lecturers, Caeser Attard, Isabelle Borg and most especially Joseph Paul Cassar who instilled in him his deeply rooted passion for painting and Modern and Contemporary Art. Obtaining a BA (Hons.) in History of Art in 2004, Fabrizio is currently reading for an MA in the same subject whilst teaching Art at the Junior College, University of Malta. Fabrizio’s works are large in scale and dimension – they almost have a belittling effect on the viewer who is faced with a torrent of paint and colour. His works are bold and highly expressive; some of them are amassed with layer upon layer of paint, almost as though the artist were succumbing to a fear of void, whilst other works are quite minimalistic and allow room for the viewers’ eye to wonder and fill in the ‘blank spaces’. Although Fabrizio has regularly exhibited his works over the past few years, by taking part in various collective shows, MITTE – which takes inspiration from a year spent traveling in Europe – is his first one-man show (29th March – 23rd April 2007, the National Museum of Fine Arts, Valletta) For more information about the artist visit:
