Born in London, Miriam Sorrell has firmly established herself as an emerging artist since moving to Malta from London seven years ago. A full-time artist, Miriam has held six major exhibitions over the last three years, and has become known for her flamboyant and passionate use of colour and texture. Miriam has created her own trademark medium - oil-based pigments and a variety of high glosses to create works that are both vibrant, luminous and three-dimensional, with the impression of light bursting out of the canvas. One feels compelled to touch them. There is great drama, movement, light and contrasts in her works – at times almost like worlds colliding. Inspired by the rich, vibrant colours of her Mediterranean roots (Greek, Turkish and Italian), she has an innate need to let their bright vitality burst out through her works. One feels a sense of spontaneity, adventure, wonder and magic when looking at her paintings. She strives for idealism through her art, transporting the viewer into a world of vivid imagination where all elements become exaggerated, allowing us to enjoy a concentration of pleasure. Her art is about nature in its extreme - it transcends reality - it is surreal - and is about youthful energy, fun moods, fertility and the joys of life. It's about a world without boundaries, a merge of colour, senses, shapes and textures Miriam has painted for most of her life. She paints daily and is highly prolific, having produced over 300 paintings in the last 6 years. She is passionate about everything that she does in her life - and embraces all the senses that she believes we were born to make full use of. She has achieved this in a number of ways, as a singer, holistic therapist, gourmet cook and animal lover.
